Volunteer With CMJ
Thank you for enquiring about volunteering at one of our ministry centers in Israel. We hope you will find the following information helpful.

GENERAL INFORMATION
The Church's Ministry among Jewish people was founded in 1809 and began work in Jerusalem in the 1820s. CMJ Israel fulfils its aim of being a Christian ministry among Jewish people in Israel in different ways:

Co-operating with local Believers in Jesus at each of its centres and in other contexts.
Promoting reconciliation between Israeli Believers and Arab Christians (including Palestinians); Gentiles and Jewish People
Teaching Gentiles about the Jewish roots of the Christian Faith.
Informing people about the history of the Society. Jewish historian, Barbara Tuchman, said that the Society's concern for the "restoration of Israel" gives its work "historical importance".
Promoting intercession including "for the peace of Jerusalem".
Combating antisemitism including by correcting misunderstandings and misinformation about the Israeli/Palestinian conflict.
Providing insights into balanced biblical teaching about God's purposes for the future, including his purpose for the Jewish people.

VOLUNTEER WORK IN ISRAEL
Living and working in Israel in what can be a hot climate and in the context of what can be at times a volatile political situation calls for men and women with a depth and maturity of Christian experience. They will need to be willing to explore opportunities for Christian service in a culture in which the reality of modern Israel (Jew, Arab and international) is found alongside the unique and rich heritage that has its roots in the life and times of the Biblical record. As people with servant hearts they will be prepared to put their hands to any task. They will be expected to work loyally in a team situation and be committed to the vision and aims of CMJ and of the Center where they will be serving. In the light of this we are looking for volunteers who are between 21-60 years of age although we are prepared to consider applications from students in their 'gap year'. Applicants must be physically fit, as the work is demanding. Increasingly CMJ is seeking to provide an interesting volunteer teaching program.

Christ Church Center - is located just inside the Jaffa Gate in Jerusalem's Old City. It is the oldest Protestant Church in the Middle East, which is used by Messianic, international English-speaking and other congregations. Within the center itself there are a variety of ministries centered on a small residential community of Messianic and Gentile believers. Guest rooms are used for conferences, Shoresh Study Tours (along with the newly formed 'Alexander College') and other visitors. There is also a Heritage Centre and a Bookshop. Volunteers are involved in hospitality, domestic and reception work. We normally like people to consider coming for at least six months, but there is a probationary period of 3 months.

Beit Bracha - our Prayer center, Beit Bracha, will cater for up to 24 guests in the North of Israel. Overlooking Lake Galilee and many of the places featured in Jesus' ministry, it is set in the quiet Jewish village of Migdal, the home of Mary Magdalene, and about five minutes drive north of Tiberias city. Situated among olive trees, colourful bougainvillea and the sweet-scented magnolia, this is a place of peace and rest. The center is available for Israeli Messianic Believers and Arab Christians; CMJ staff having a break from Jerusalem and Christians from overseas who are participants in prayer tours or who want to use Beit Bracha as a base for prayer for the nation. In addition to the staff couple who run the ministry, Beit Bracha needs a small number of volunteers who will mainly be involved in cooking, household duties, maintenance and care of the grounds. Although the buildings are air-conditioned, volunteers would need to be able to cope with very hot weather from June to September. This is a small community; therefore it is especially important that volunteers are people of gentle spirit who will work in harmony with the rest of the team. Since unity among the staff will contribute significantly to the healing atmosphere of Beit Bracha, volunteers will initially only be accepted for 3 months, renewable by mutual agreement. It would be important for volunteers also to have a prayer burden for Israel themselves and a concern to serve the needs of guests in a loving way.

SUPPORT FOR THE VOLUNTEER
a) Prayer Support Community life and the intense political and spiritual situation in Israel are not always easy. Prayer support is vital. It is strongly recommended that people who know the volunteer commit themselves to pray regularly for him/her.

b) Financial Support The cost for the volunteer includes return airfare, medical insurance (arrangements for both of which we can help with) and personal spending money. We hope that his/her local Church may feel that they are able to provide some support either to the individual or to CMJ for accommodation, but it is not a condition of acceptance as a volunteer.

c) Keeping in Touch The third way that churches and Christian friends can support volunteers is by keeping in touch. A short airmail or email can make all the difference!
