This chapter was read in Christ Church last week. Interesting, and full of richness. Verses 4 and 5, for example, says this: “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength.”
But it was verse 23 that particularly struck me: “But he brought us out from there to bring us in and give us the land he promised on oath to our ancestors.” A simple verse, with a rich truth.
He brought us out to bring us in. And it occurred to me that God is always bringing us out – out of slavery, out of sinfulness, out of bad situations, out of Egypt, whatever that is for us. But having brought us out he never leaves us in limbo, in a state of nothingness, he never abandons us. He always brings us out in order to bring us in.
He brings us out of the bad stuff to bring us into the good stuff. Our destiny is to be brought out so that He can bring us in to the land he promised… That’s our heritage as believers. We are destined not to stay where we are, but to be brought, sometimes through the desert, yes, but to be brought into the land of promise.
And God comes with us, and leads us into our destiny.
