Fifth Sunday after Pentecost - We are in a wonderful time in our cycle of readings, walking with Jesus to Jerusalem. I want to remind folks that Jesus’ teaching in Luke 10 is not just some ideal but was connected to the culture. In a day with no Internet, no podcasts, no YouTube, any itinerant teacher was “tested" with questions. It was not necessarily malicious. We must be grateful to that lawyer who asked, “Who is my neighbor?” Jesus’ answer is as pertinent today as it was 2,000 years ago.
Readings: Deuteronomy 30:9-14; Psalm 25:1-9; Luke 10:25-37
